All Greater Ultras courses are held on U.S. Forest Service land under a special use permit and will remain open to public use for the entirety of the event. These mountains, valleys, and trails are shared spaces — and we’re honored to run here.
As respectful users of these lands, we ask every runner to be mindful and courteous toward others who may be out enjoying the trails — hikers, bikers, horseback riders, and all who call this landscape home for the weekend.
Please keep the following in mind while racing:
Be kind on the course. Communicate when passing and show respect to every trail user you encounter.
Protect the land. Do not disturb soils, trample vegetation, or harass wildlife.
Stay on course. Remain on the designated and marked trails at all times. Leaving established routes or cutting trails may result in disqualification.
The heart of Greater Ultras is about more than miles — it’s about running with respect for the land, the community, and the wild spaces that make this event possible.

If you need to withdraw from the race at any point, you are responsible for your own transportation back to the start/finish area. Please notify the nearest aid station or check in with the timing crew at the finish line so we can account for your safety.
In the event of a medical emergency, our race medical team will follow the established Emergency Action Plan in coordination with local agencies. Depending on location and conditions, Cody Regional Hospital, and/or Search and Rescue may assist with extraction or evacuation as needed.
We take runner safety seriously, and clear communication is key. If you decide to stop, let an aid station captain or medic know before leaving the course — so we can ensure every participant makes it home safely.

High-Altitude Awareness
The Greater Yellowstone Ultras take place in rugged, high-mountain country. These elevations are beautiful — but they can also challenge your body in ways you may not expect. Take time to listen to your body, prepare well, and respect the altitude.
Acclimatize Before You Push Hard
When you first arrive, give yourself time to adjust before beginning any strenuous activity. The thinner air at high elevation contains less oxygen and humidity than at sea level, which can lead to fatigue, mild headaches, shortness of breath, or difficulty sleeping. Ease into your activity and allow your body to adapt gradually.Protect Yourself From the Sun
The thinner atmosphere filters out very little of the sun’s UV rays, which means sunburn can happen fast — even with sunscreen. Apply a high-SPF sunscreen often, wear protective layers and a hat, and shield your eyes with quality sunglasses. Fair-skinned runners can burn in just a couple of hours, especially during high-exposure activities.Be Prepared for Changing Weather
Mountain weather shifts quickly. Even in summer, wind, rain, or sudden temperature drops are possible. Dress in layers and always carry a light shell or windbreaker. A t-shirt, wool or synthetic mid-layer, hooded jacket, and water bottle are good basics for nearly any mountain outing.Stay Hydrated and Eat Lightly
Dehydration happens faster at altitude. Drink plenty of water — at least 8–10 glasses a day — and fuel with light, balanced meals. Avoid alcohol for the first 24 hours after arriving; it can worsen dehydration and slow acclimatization.Listen to Your Body
If you experience headache, fatigue, insomnia, or nausea, you may be feeling the effects of altitude. Slow down, rest, and hydrate. If symptoms persist or worsen, seek medical attention or alert race medical staff. These mountains demand respect — and they’ll reward preparation with an unforgettable experience.
